The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl

Issa Rae changed my life.

I stumbled on her work early last year and The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl set a lot of wheels in motion for me. On some level, I owe my involvement in shows like RSVP (not out yet), B4 30 (not out yet), HowShe, my stint at iROKO Partners and acting gig on Gidi Up  to J. I've seen a number of web series since -I'll share the links later- and the more I got into them, the more I wondered which production company would go the full hog and release their entire body of work online.

African music and movies seem to have thier online monetisation on lock but their series are flagging in comparisson. As a producer, it's often hard to get your material the kind of airtime you want it to have and this is something that happens across the equator too -in the words of Three 6 Mafia and Cedric Coleman (a la Hustle & Flow), It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp. So here's my little nod to shows like GIM who give me hope for the new wave of content to come out of Africa in the most unorthodox of ways.

"Awkward Black Girl" is the brainchild of Issa Rae, a Stanford graduate who created the scripted comedy to illustrate her theory that "we're all awkward." The critically-acclaimed show became a cult sensation during its first season. i am OTHER is happy to welcome Issa and her friends to the channel for its second season.

Peace, Love & ABG
